About us

DTGrip is based in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, serving garment printers across South Africa with direct-to-garment platens, hoops, pretreatment kits and practical support. We work with print shops that need reliable tools, clear guidance and fast supply for day to day production.

About us

Built For Local Garment Printers

DTGrip started in 2011 with a simple idea: South African printers needed equipment that suits local garments, local production pressure and local delivery times. In a city like Johannesburg, where a shop can go from a school order to branded workwear and then to a last minute promo run, the setup must be quick, repeatable and tough enough for daily use. That thinking still shapes how we work from Crown Mines today.

We focus on direct-to-garment printer platens, hoops and pretreatment kits because those are the parts that affect output first. If a platen sits properly, if a hoop holds fabric correctly, and if the pretreat process is consistent, the print comes out cleaner and the operator wastes less time. That matters whether you are handling 20 shirts a day or pushing higher volume for retail, events and corporate work. We know the pressure of keeping turnaround times tight when a client wants stock ready before Friday afternoon and the courier has to make the cut.

What We Stand For In The Workshop

Our team believes that good equipment should make work easier, not harder. That means clear setup advice, honest recommendations and products that can handle regular use in hot workshops, dusty rooms and coastal conditions where humidity can affect pretreat and garment handling. We do not push a one size fits all approach because a shop in Sandton with short runs is not operating the same way as a printer in Durban with faster repeat jobs and different fabric mixes.

We pay attention to the small details that save time later, like platen fit, height consistency, alignment marks and operator comfort during long shifts. We also know that load-shedding can interrupt production at the worst moment, so a good workflow has to be simple enough to resume quickly after power returns. Our aim is practical: less rework, fewer misprints and better use of every garment that moves through the press.

  • Reliable fit for common garment sizes and production workflows
  • Advice that matches the way South African print shops actually work
  • Support for busy periods, training days and production changes
  • Products chosen for repeat use, not just the first job

How We Work With Print Shops Nationwide

Most of our clients reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page, then we take it from there with clear questions about their setup, garment types and the problems they are trying to solve. A small shop in Randburg may need help with a single platen and basic operator guidance, while a larger production floor in Midrand or Pretoria East might need a full workflow review and seasonal reconfiguration. We treat both with the same care because both need the same thing: equipment that works properly and support that is easy to follow.

From our Johannesburg base, we dispatch products by next-day courier to print shops nationwide where possible, so clients in the East Rand, Centurion or even further afield can keep production moving. When a job needs a closer look, we can assist remotely or arrange an onsite support visit depending on location and scope. The goal is to keep your shop working while reducing downtime, not to make you wait for answers.

  • Next-day courier to print shops across South Africa where possible
  • Remote troubleshooting for day to day production problems
  • Onsite support visits for setup, alignment and workflow checks
  • Sample testing for new fabrics, new garments and new orders

Support That Covers The Whole Production Line

We do more than supply items off a shelf. Our support includes platen installation, hoop setup, pretreat workflow, print alignment help and production scaling advice for shops that are growing fast. If a business is moving from hobby level work to commercial orders, the jump can be tricky. Garments arrive in mixed sizes, operators use different habits and the timing between pretreat, drying and printing can become inconsistent. We help tighten that process so the work gets steadier, batch after batch.

Our training is practical and hands on. We show operators how to place garments properly, how to check alignment before production starts and how to keep pretreat application consistent across shifts. That is useful for new staff, but also for experienced teams who need a refresh when they change garment types or add a new printer to the floor. Small improvements can save a lot of time over a month, and that can mean better margins on custom apparel and promotional work.

  • Platen installation and seasonal reconfiguration
  • Hoop setup for different garment shapes and sizes
  • Pretreat workflow checks for cleaner print results
  • Operator training for new staff and existing teams

The People Behind The Name

DTGrip is run by a team that understands the pressures of garment decoration from different angles. Thabo Mokoena leads the business as Managing Director, with Ayesha Naidoo overseeing operations, Sipho Dlamini handling technical support, Lerato Molefe working with sales enquiries, Johan Smit in the workshop and Zanele Khumalo coordinating training. Each person plays a part in making sure the advice, preparation and support stay practical and consistent.

That structure matters because a print shop does not need vague answers. It needs someone who can explain what to do next, what to check and what to avoid. If a platen is causing placement issues, or if a pretreat step is not holding up well on a certain fabric, we want to get to the point quickly. Clear support saves time, and in a production environment time is money. We try to keep the process straightforward, with no unnecessary back and forth and no confusing jargon.

We also value relationships built over time. Many garment printers in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and the surrounding areas want a supplier they can speak to when something changes on the floor. A new garment mix, a seasonal rush or a change in operator experience can all affect output. Being available and practical is part of how we work every day.

Why Growing Shops Keep Coming Back

Businesses come back to DTGrip because we understand that growth brings new problems as well as new orders. More output can expose weak points in setup, training and workflow. A shop that was fine with small runs may suddenly need to handle school uniforms, teamwear, retail pieces and branded staff shirts in the same week. When that happens, the tools and the process have to scale with the business, not slow it down.

We like working with clients who care about consistency, because that is what keeps customers returning. Whether the order is for fashion labels, promotional items or custom apparel, a clean and repeatable print result helps protect your reputation. We also understand that not every job starts perfectly, so we are ready to help with sample testing, workflow review and production changes when needed. That support is often what turns a difficult week into a manageable one, and it helps a shop stay steady even when the schedule gets tight.

From Crown Mines to Sandton, from Randburg to the East Rand, our role is to support the people doing the printing. We do that with equipment, advice and a service style that stays grounded in real shop conditions, not theory.
